Mike Tomlin of the Steelers Provides an Informative Response About Injured Players, Including TJ Watt.
Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, spoke to the media during his last press conference of the 2023 campaign. He delivered updates on various injuries and addressed a variety of topics, including his intention to return as head coach for the upcoming campaign. The injuries that he mentioned happened either before or during the Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills. Superstar edge rusher TJ Watt’s injury from Week 18 was one of the most significant ailments he treated.
When the Steelers met the Baltimore Ravens in their final game, Watt was injured. He sprained his MCL in Grade 2. That made it physically impossible for Watt to perform his job, according to a former NFL doctor. A defensive player needs to be very quick to cut and turn when working the edge. Watt has made numerous adjustments at maximum speed, planted his foot, and made tackles or sacks.
Watt was never going to be able to play against Buffalo, that much was clear early on. However, Steelers supporters believed that Watt would become available if the team proceeded to the Divisional Round, given his superhuman healing abilities. They lost a game that seemed much closer than the score indicated, however, because they failed to do it.
It goes without saying that we need to take care of those who are ill as quickly as possible. We don’t support injuries that continue into the offseason. I don’t have that list, but I believe we have a couple surgeries planned. Nothing serious, just some minor procedures. TJ’s recovery is doing nicely. If we had played this week, he probably would have been available. Joey Porter Jr. and Allen Robinson are two of the individuals from the previous performance who are currently in the concussion protocol. That seems like it’s reaching its end. Tomlin said, “We have some men on IR who have been on IR, and their recovery processes are working as intended.
Watt recently declared to the media that Tomlin is the only coach he would like to play for. It seems sense that the Steelers and Tomlin would stop at nothing to keep Watt in Pittsburgh.
