Kristaps Porzingis Provides Positive Update After Injury Scare - Sports Illustrated Boston Celtics News, Analysis and More

The Boston Celtics put on one of their best games of the year on Thursday night at the Kaseya Center. They produced the second-most efficient shooting performance in NBA history—achieving an 80.5 percent true shooting percentage—in their 143-110 thumping of the Miami Heat, according to Stat Muse. The visitors were never behind until Terry Rozier scored on the opening possession of the hosts, a bucket that was promptly matched by Derrick White.

Less than five minutes into the third quarter, Kristaps Porzingis made the lone mistake when he lunged to block a baseline effort by Bam Adebayo that was getting close to the basket. The seven-foot-three center rolled his ankle after landing on the player’s foot. However, the Latvian native quickly made his way back to Boston’s bench after hobbling off the field and receiving assistance from the Celtics’ training staff as they went down the tunnel.

During a break, he even pretended to box with Jaylen Brown, demonstrating his positive attitude. Another optimistic indicator was the former All-Star’s decision to speak with the media following the triumph, which was supported by the upbeat update he provided.

He probably won’t suit up for the TD Garden game on Saturday against the Los Angeles Clippers, though. He was originally listed by the Celtics as doubtful on their injury report because of a sprained left ankle. Even though it’s likely that he’s been demoted to inactive, the fact that the team hasn’t done so yet seems encouraging for how his ankle is holding up a day later and following his return flight to Boston, where pain and swelling could be exacerbated by things like reduced mobility, extended sitting, and changes in cabin pressure. Porzingis stated that he hopes to be playing on a daily basis, and the most recent report from the team seems to indicate that this will happen.
