The update on Kristaps Porzingis’ injury from Joe Mazzulla will allay Celtics supporters’ fears.
Star player Kristaps Porzingis left the game with a sprained ankle as the Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat on Thursday.
During contested shot in the third quarter, Porzingis sprained his left ankle and hobbled to the locker room. Although he was initially marked as unlikely to return, he did return to the Celtics bench to begin the game’s last quarter. The big man, who finished with 19 points and four rebounds, was eventually declared ineligible.
Porzingis will also miss Saturday’s Celtics game against the Clippers, but Souichi Terada of Mass Live News reports that Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla provided a positive update:
“Joe Mazzulla says he doesn’t think Kristaps Porzingis’ ankle sprain will keep him out of action for long.”
The Boston Celtics are hoping to see their great center back on the court soon and at maximum capacity. In slightly under seven rebounds per game, Porzingis is scoring over 19 points per game and contributing significantly to Boston’s success this season.
Lately, Porzingis has been dealing with injuries. He missed the previous game against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, but he was able to participate in the one on January 25th against the revamped Heat.
With a record of 35-10 on the year, Boston leads the NBA Eastern Conference by four games, ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks, who recently hired a new coach. Despite Porzingis’ left ankle injury, the Celtics have won seven of their previous ten games.
Jayson Tatum of the Celtics’ emotional response at being selected an All-Star starter
On Thursday evening, Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics improved to an NBA-best record of 35-10 with a dominant road win over their Eastern Conference rivals, the Miami Heat. Tatum didn’t need to do a whole lot en route to the victory, but it was still a perfect ending for what was a great night for the Celtics star.
Tatum thanked the team on X, a social networking platform that was formerly known as Twitter, following the conclusion of the game against the Heat.
“I used to dream about times like these, 5X all-star. I love and appreciate each and every one of you more than you can ever know, Tatum wrote.
Over his more than five years with the Celtics, Tatum has established himself as one of the league’s unanimous greatest players. He has also guided the team on many deep playoff trips, including the last two seasons.
