“Kid” Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is edging closer to Patriots GOAT, but how far is he from Brady?
There’s no Bill Belichick in a world gone mad. Tom Brady’s records, which appear impenetrable, might also be. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is getting closer to the playoff success that was once thought unreachable when quarterback Robby Brady led the New England Patriots, following the Chiefs’ shock victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. Mahomes has started for the Chiefs for the past six seasons. On his approach to his fourth Super Bowl, which will take place in Las Vegas on February 11, he has attended six AFC Championship Games. He’s only twenty-eight years old.
In contrast, Brady, who is regarded as the greatest NFL quarterback of all time, won three AFC championships and three Super Bowls at the age of 28. With his two Super Bowl victories included, Mahomes is 14-3 in the postseason. Brady has a 12-2 postseason record to start his career. Undoubtedly, Mahomes and Brady are closer than we may realize. Everyone believed that Brady’s record seven Super Bowl victories would never be surpassed when he retired at the age of 45. Is Mahomes, though, suddenly the “kid” or baby goat? If we examine more closely, we may say that Mahomes is off to an even quicker start than Brady. 28 years old/
Of course, Mahomes plays in a league that is far more pass-oriented, and he is coached by the innovative Andy Reid rather than the traditional Belichick. And in order to flirt with Brady, he needs to maintain his pace for a another twenty years. However, Mahomes had fantasies of pursuing Brady even a year ago. Prior to Super Bowl LVII, Mahomes declared, “I’m trying to catch Tom.” However, Tom is quite far away. When I’m about 38 years old, you can ask me.” The discussion just became more fascinating.
