Despite having the best record in the NBA, the Boston Celtics could be having trouble.
The Boston Celtics continue to lead the NBA in record even after their crushing home loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday. With a record of 35-11, they are three games ahead of the 32-14 Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Even though the Celtics have dominated the most of the 2023–24 campaign, their losses must be cause for concern. Although they have only lost 11 times in their league history, they have a questionable record when it comes to playing the best clubs.
The Boston Celtics Have Been Blown Out Twice Lately Against Elite Teams
The Bucks humiliated the Celtics on the road on Thursday, January 11, losing 135-102. Things deteriorated to the point where head coach Joe Mazzulla, down 75–38 at halftime, rested his starters for the whole second half.
Even elite teams will occasionally suffer setbacks. Unfavorable losses will also occur. The majority of Celtics supporters attributed this one to being the second leg of a back-to-back, with the team traveling from Boston to Milwaukee following their exhausting overtime triumph against the Timberwolves. Give their starters a rest; the Celtics just didn’t have it that evening. Alright, it makes sense.
But the Celtics met the same end less than two weeks later, only this time it was in front of their home audience. The Clippers arrived in town and dominated Boston, winning a game that wasn’t even close, 115-96.
Though there’s no need to panic just yet, there are several things to be aware of. When it comes to winning big games, these Celtics don’t have the best record. Although the Celtics easily defeated the Clippers in Los Angeles and defeated the Bucks at home earlier in the season, they don’t have a terrific record versus the best clubs in the league.
