Andy Reid and Tom Brady discuss what it takes to win consecutive Super Bowls.
In an interview with Tom Brady and Jim Gray for “Let’s Go,” Andy Reid talked about what it takes to effectively defend a Super Bowl championship.
There’s no denying that Andy Reid and Tom Brady both understand what it takes to win Super Bowls. After guiding the Patriots to six Super Bowls during his tenure with the team, Brady cemented his legacy in New England. In the meanwhile, Reid is the driving force behind the Chiefs, who under Patrick Mahomes have won two Super Bowls and advanced to six straight AFC Championship games since 2018.
Reid and Brady discussed what it required to win titles at the top level of the game when Reid joined Brady’s Let’s Go SiriusXM program. Jim Gray, the host and respected journalist, invited Brady and Reid to discuss the mentality that goes into wanting to win back-to-back championships in consecutive years. Brady and the Patriots won back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005, and this season, the Chiefs hope to do the same.
“One Super Bowl victory is difficult. It’s really, really hard to win two of them and back-to-back years. The players’, coaches’, and system’s character, in my opinion, was what allowed the teams I was a part of to succeed year after year by bringing out the best in each other at crucial times. And as you can see, we constantly attempt to put a great deal of pressure on our players to achieve, whether it was an O. T. A. The pressure was constant whether it was a combined practice or a preseason game when there was a training camp. It was never Hey, I always recall that coach Belichick would approach me and tell me that this was a major deal. We make jokes about how I had twenty years of great days because everyone was significant throughout that time. And that’s what we observed.
Yes, as you mentioned. It’s difficult to reach the Super Bowl and then be able to sustain it, to put it mildly. In addition to being a player and a member of the Patriots, you also bit us in the ass at Tampa Bay. You know, you have to have a certain mindset and level of tenacity going into every game, and you gave us that down there. For our guys, it was a worthwhile learning experience.
