The Dallas Cowboys are allegedly in the running to hire a seasoned NFL head coach to oversee defense.
Dan Quinn’s acceptance of the head coaching position with the division rival Washington Commanders leaves Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys with a void at defensive coordinator.
Quinn was a candidate for that position throughout the previous two head coach cycles, so his departure is not all that shocking.
However, the seasoned coach did captain two top-five defenses in a row. For struggling head coach Mike McCarthy, replacing him won’t be easy. Quinn performed admirably with the Cowboys despite a few setbacks during the NFL Wild Card Playoffs.
What then will the Cowboys do in the wake of firing the well-liked head coach? We may know the solution.
Mike Zimmer interested in Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator job
The addition of this to the Cowboys’ hunt for a new defensive coordinator is really intriguing. It’s also as authentic as it gets.
In 1994, Zimmer began his NFL coaching career with the Cowboys as an assistant coach. He was a part of the coaching staff that, in 1995, helped Dallas capture its final Super Bowl championship under head coach Barry Switzer.
He has 14 seasons of experience as an NFL defensive coordinator. During that time, Zimmer oversaw 10 defenses that placed among the top 10 in the league.
Additionally, in his eight seasons as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, Zimmer, 67, recorded a 72-56-1 record. His background and track record would be logical assets in Big D as Quinn’s replacement.
