Frozen Fury: Virginia Tech Hokies Dominate the Ice in Stunning Hockey Showdown

Blacksburg, VA — The chill in the air wasn’t just the weather—it was the ice-cold precision of the Virginia Tech Hokies as they skated to a resounding 6–2 victory over the Richmond Spiders in Saturday night’s hockey clash at the Berglund Center. With a packed crowd cheering them on, the Hokies put on a dazzling display of speed, skill, and grit that left their opponents scrambling to keep up.

From the first puck drop, Virginia Tech came out firing. Sophomore winger Jake Morgan lit the lamp just two minutes into the first period with a laser from the left circle, setting the tone for what would become a relentless offensive onslaught. Goalie Evan Richards was a wall in the crease, turning away 34 of 36 shots and making two highlight-reel glove saves that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

“Our guys came in hungry,” said head coach Tyler Whitman. “We’ve been building momentum all season, and tonight we saw it all come together. The chemistry, the effort—it was Hokie hockey at its finest.”

The Hokies’ depth was on full display, with goals from five different players and assists spread across all four lines. Freshman standout Liam Chen notched a goal and two assists, continuing his breakout season with poise beyond his years.

Defensively, Virginia Tech stifled Richmond’s attacks, winning battles in the corners and clogging passing lanes with disciplined structure. The penalty kill went a perfect 4-for-4, anchored by the veteran pairing of Brandon Lee and Aiden Parker.

With the win, Virginia Tech improves to 10–3 on the season and moves into first place in their division of the ACHA. The victory also adds fuel to growing excitement around the Hokies’ playoff potential, as fans and players alike eye a deep postseason run.

“We’re not done yet,” Richards said with a grin after the game. “This is just the beginning.”

Virginia Tech will next face off against George Washington University on Friday, aiming to extend their win streak and continue their dominant
