A social media post by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers suggested that quarterback Baker Mayfield and wide receiver Mike Evans were off to a false start.

Fans of the Buccaneers were hoping for new contracts for Mayfield and Evans after seeing a social media video on Thursday with the caption “to be continued” featuring the two players. Jenna Laine, an ESPN Buccaneers insider, then broke the bad news.

“Just to be clear, as I’ve noticed some people making comments…There are currently no new contracts for Mike Evans and Baker Mayfield, according to Laine’s Thursday post on “X,” previously Twitter. “This is not that at all.”

Both Mayfield and Evans are expected to command hefty contracts when they become free agents in March. Spotrac forecasts Evans’ yearly income to be $23.8 million and Mayfield’s to be $27.1 million.

When they become unrestricted free agents in March, Mayfield and Evans should both command large contracts. Evans’ annual income is expected to be $23.8 million by Spotrac, while Mayfield’s is expected to be $27.1 million.

Mayfield sees something great in Tampa, which is why he spoke on Thursday as though it was 2021 and the Bucs had just brought back all 22 starters.

During the Super Bowl festivities, Mayfield said to NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano and Daniel Jeremiah, “Obviously, we want to get the band back together.”

With regard to rejoining Evans, Mayfield made that statement; nevertheless, the quarterback said that he will assess the situation in free agency. But he regarded the Buccaneers as a winning club, so the outcome might be similar.

Since I’ve personally witnessed it, Tampa clearly has the advantage, so I’m just analyzing that. Knowing where I’m going in life at this moment. To be able to have the opportunity to win Super Bowls is something I truly value, so I want to win,” Mayfield stated.

Though Mayfield stated that he will evaluate the situation in free agency, the quarterback did not rule out rejoining Evans. However, he thought of the Buccaneers as a winning team, so the result might be the same.

I’m merely examining the fact that Tampa obviously has the advantage because I’ve seen it myself. knowing right now where I want to go in life. “I really want to win because I truly value the opportunity to win Super Bowls,” Mayfield said.

Evans might have a more difficult time joining the Buccaneers than Mayfield does. The agent for the receiver insisted on a Week 1 deadline for contract negotiations with the Buccaneers in 2023, but the request was not fulfilled.

Maybe Evans will find it harder to sign with the Buccaneers than Mayfield. The receiver’s agent demanded that contract talks with the Buccaneers begin in Week 1 of 2023, but the request was not granted.

Mayfield remarked, “I understand where Mike is in his career.” “.. He’s a prime target. The man has amassed 1,000 (receiving) yards ten years in a row, demonstrating remarkable consistency. Seldom can someone ever say that.

“That guy is insane,” Mayfield continued. “I believe he took it personally, but everyone wanted to put a date on it and say he’s not going to be good anymore.”
