The Bengals have decided what to do with Tee Higgins going forward.

CINCINNATI, OHIO - DECEMBER 16: Tee Higgins #5 of the Cincinnati Bengals warms up before the game against the Minnesota Vikings at Paycor Stadium on December 16, 2023 in Cincinnati, Ohio

The Cincinnati Bengals’ 2023 NFL season was forgettable because star quarterback Joe Burrow appeared doomed when he injured his calf during training camp, just before he inked a huge deal extension with the team.

Burrow’s absence off the field during the 2023 NFL regular season made it brutally clear that Cincinnati wasn’t the same squad without him at quarterback, but they anticipate having him back healthy and prepared for the 2024 campaign.

The future of standout wide receiver Tee Higgins, though, was a major issue going into the NFL offseason.

It is now possible to put any discussion regarding Higgins’ short-term future with the Bengals to rest because the organisation responded immediately when asked what they would do with their franchise tag this season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Higgins has been informed by the Bengals that he will receive a franchise tag.

The 25-year-old wide receiver will earn significantly more next season as a result of the Bengals applying a franchise tag to him; he is projected to earn $21.8 million for the 2024 NFL season.

That’s a fairly good total for a man who saw action in just 12 games the previous season and finished with 42 receptions for 656 yards and five touchdowns, well short of the 1,000-yard receiving record.

Higgins is a crucial component of the Cincinnati Bengals’ puzzle, even though his talent level isn’t as high as that of colleague Ja’Marr Chase. The organisation understood they couldn’t lose him this offseason.
