Following an injury that forced the team to postpone the game, a New England Patriots player “has feeling in all extremities,” the team said.
CNN —
Following Isaiah Bolden’s injury and carting off the field in the fourth quarter of the New England Patriots vs. Green Bay Packers NFL preseason game, the rest of the game was canceled on Saturday.
Early in the fourth quarter at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Bolden collided with teammate Calvin Munson while they were attempting to tackle Packers player Malik Heath. After the collision, Bolden lay motionless.
The Patriots later said on social media, “He had feeling in all his extremities, but has been taken to a local hospital for further tests and observation.”
While the rookie cornerback was being treated on the field and subsequently taken off, players from both teams gathered. Bolden, who was selected in the seventh round of the NFL Draft this year, will spend the night in the hospital, according to the organization.
Additionally, the Patriots had stated on social media that they and the Packers had come to an agreement to halt play for the rest of the game. Following the game, quarterback Mac Jones, special teams captain Matthew Slater, and head coach Bill Belichick of the Patriots discussed Bolden and the stoppage with the media.
“We’re all saying a prayer for Isaiah,” Belichick told reporters. “I appreciated the way the league handled it. I think that was the right thing to do.”
Slater stated that the decision to halt play following the injury was the correct one.
Slater acknowledged that Belichick’s decision and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur’s “standing with him on that” had “clearly shaken our team.”
“It was the right call in this situation, and I think everyone moved quickly,” he said.
Jones expressed a similar opinion, applauding the choice to postpone the game.
Jones told reporters, “I think Coach Belichick just really did a good job there talking with Slater and the leadership of the team.” It’s clear how (he) handled the circumstance. He and Slater performed admirably in the locker room, simply chatting with the guys like he usually does. He makes an effort to unite us. It’s all genuine feeling. He, Slater, and other team leaders who have the ability to unite us in trying times are greatly appreciated.
