In honor of the record shot, Caitlin Clark makes an unexpected admission about the on-court logo.
On February 15, Iowa player Caitlin Clark made history by becoming the NCAA Division I women’s basketball career top scorer after making a long three-pointer in a victory over Michigan. The Hawkeyes honored her by putting a decal including her name and jersey number on the floor at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, where she made the game-winning shot. The tribute was unveiled on Sunday. However, following her team’s 101–85 victory over Illinois, a visiting team, Clark revealed something unexpected regarding the court’s inscription.
With 24 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists, Clark had triple-doubled. “It seems a bit further back than where I actually shot it from, but that’s where they claim I shot it from,” he said to reporters. But it’s really unique. That will always stick in my memory.”
As she enters her senior year with No. 4 Iowa (24–4, 13–3 Big Ten), one of the most decorated college basketball players ever, Clark is averaging 32.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game.
Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET, the Hawkeyes will play their penultimate regular-season game away to Minnesota (15–12, 5–11).
