News for the Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins should fully recover from his Achilles injury that ended the season. Following surgery to correct the injury, he has allegedly been making significant progress, so when the next season begins, he should be ready to play.

But the real question is if he’ll still be playing for the Vikings in 2024.

Kevin O’Connell, the head coach, addressed the media on Tuesday from the Indianapolis Scouting Combine. Of course, one of the most important issues he had to deal with was Cousins’ future.

O’Connell emphasized that Cousins is well-aware of what he’s doing in the lead-up to free agency, having attended the dance four times as a quarterback in the Pro Bowl. The quarterback for Minnesota made it rather evident that while the team would love to have their QB1 back for at least another season, they are also open to the prospect of a summer divorce:

According to O’Connell, “Kirk has experience in free agency,” Charean Williams of PFT reported. Kirk Cousins is aware of my feelings for him. There are no secrets I’ve kept. He’s aware of the Minnesota Vikings’ feelings toward him. I think Kirk wants to be a Viking, and we’re going to do everything in our power to make that happen.

“I believe that any time you enter a situation like this, it is a negotiation, and we’re trying to reach a solution that benefits both of us as we work to create our football squad for 2024 and take steps to assist us maintain ourselves going forward as well…. Kirk and I seem to be moving in the right direction, but as we’ve seen,

Kirk was a major factor in our decision to come here for two years, according to O’Connell. Because I believed so highly in him, I had a lot of positive thoughts about the Minnesota Vikings’ prospects. With Kirk as quarterback for us the past two years, we’ve won a lot of games and believed he was playing as good as anyone in the NFL when he was injured following our victory over the Packers at Lambeau Field last year…. It meant a lot to me personally, going far beyond simply my coaching responsibilities, to have that happen. However, it’s been amazing to watch him through his rehabilitation and to see him at this point, truly getting back up and going after this.
