What Michigan transfer Keon Sabb can add to Alabama football.
In Tuscaloosa, Kalen DeBoer hopes to instill “championship habits.” The Alabama football squad of 2024 has a lot of ties to championship victories. DeBoer built an NAIA powerhouse at Sioux Falls to begin his coaching career. Not only does DeBoer work for six-time national winner and former UA coach Nick Saban, but the Tide are also adding a player from the reigning national champions.
Transfer to Michigan This spring, Keon Sabb ought to have a significant impact on Alabama’s secondary. With the exception of Malachi Moore, the Tide must replace each starting defensive back. Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry, two high NFL draft prospects, and standout freshman Caleb Downs have left a need that will be filled by Sabb and fellow transfer Domani Jackson (Southern California).
Regarding Sabb’s attendance at his first spring press conference on Monday, DeBoer said:
“You bring someone like that in to help you make an effect. Aside from being a fantastic football player, his character makeup makes him a terrific fit for us. Observing him in action and getting to know him better every day has been a delight. He’s simply going about his work right now, but you can tell he has the leadership element and the it factor, and we’ll be looking to him come autumn.
In all, Alabama lost eight defensive backs. Sabb entered the gateway after his head coach had departed, just like Downs. Sherrone Moore, the offensive coordinator at U-M, was elevated to replace Jim Harbaugh. Sabb still has three years left to be eligible.
In the College Football Playoff final game against DeBoer’s Washington, Sabb had six tackles and broke up two passes. In his eighteen games at Michigan, quarterback Nick Sabb amassed 28 tackles and two interceptions. Sabb is going to wear the Crimson Tide’s No. 3.
