J.J. McCarthy is compared to Giants legend by a former MVP.
On Tuesday, NFL expert Boomer Esiason said on WFAN’s “Boomer and Gio” program that the New York Giants might be more interested than people believe in selecting Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy in the 2024 draft.
Regarding a McCarthy-Giants union, Esiason reportedly remarked, “He fits ‘the mold,'” according to Ryan Chichester of Audacy. “Maniac Eli. Daniel J. Although he is a leader and somewhat reserved, he is not as outspoken as Baker Mayfield was when he played for the Cleveland Browns. He won’t be appearing in a million advertisements or anything like that. He won’t make the franchise seem bad.”
It is uncertain to outsiders whether or whether Mayfield, the top choice of the 2018 NFL Draft, “embarrassed” Cleveland by taking part in the “At Home” Progressive campaign while he was a member of the team. It’s evident that the people in charge of the Browns in March 2022 just thought they couldn’t turn down the chance to acquire Deshaun Watson through a deal with the Houston Texans.
During his stint with the Giants, Manning won two Super Bowl MVP awards, while Jones has only won one postseason game since 2019. According to reports, general manager Joe Schoen can get out of the signal-caller’s deal as early as the next offseason, thus the Giants are prepared to pick Jones’ eventual replacement.
Before he suffered an ACL tear on November 5, Jones had a dismal season. Additionally, since the 2021 season began, he has missed nine games due to neck issues.
On Tuesday, Esiason questioned how Schoen would “get a couple assets” by moving down from the sixth overall pick in the draft and still acquire McCarthy. Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports stated in a mock draft that was released on Monday that the New England Patriots will choose McCarthy with the third pick in the draft. It appears like the team wants some people to think that they could make that selection. In a mock draft published on Tuesday morning, Jordan Reid of ESPN, however, had McCarthy going to the Minnesota Vikings with selection No. 11.
