Tyrese Maxey of the 76ers stresses the value of learning how to play without Joel Embiid………

PHILADELPHIA: Nick Nurse previously stated that the Philadelphia 76ers are looking to “pick off” victories as they attempt to find a way to win without Joel Embiid. There are benefits to doing this besides the evident necessity of continuing to pursue a postseason bid.Tyrese Maxey, who was elevated to the first choice in the ultimate next-man-up scenario, wants the squad that does not have Joel Embiid to develop into a self-assured group that understands how to win games.

“You don’t plan to not have somebody going into the NBA season, especially an MVP like Jo,” Maxey remarked. When you’re in that sort of circumstance, you have to kind of piece things back together, minutes, rotations, and all that takes time. I was used to playing in the first game for a little while and then the entire second. Now that it’s inverted, I play the entirety of the first. All guys need to have is flexibility.

Everyone on the 76ers had to change how they played while Embiid wasn’t playing. Simple offensive opportunities have vanished. Errors on the defensive are more noticeable. Maxey praised KJ Martin, Mo Bamba, Paul Reed, and Nico Batum for their efforts against the Heat and stated that maintaining competition and figuring out what works best for this team is “good for us.”

“I went through a lot, and I believe that when he initially came out, it was difficult for me to get used to the traps, double teams, and other things like that.I wasn’t used to it, Maxey remarked. And then I understand now when I should attack, when I can get to the point where I can pass, how to kind of play the defense, and when they come out of the trap so I can swing it and get folks open shots.I believe I’ve grown better at that.

This season, Maxey has made aggression his main objective, as Nurse has practically always used the word when asking him what he did or has to accomplish. However, the All-Star guard stated that the 76ers’ attack is now mostly driven by aggression.

Maxey has few options for obtaining easier shots for himself in addition to his additional duty of creating players for others. He has been thrown to the wolves in his attempt to develop the in-between level because he is best at the first level of scoring (near the hoop) and the third (beyond the arc). Although winning games right now is his top priority, it’s also a work in progress that will greatly benefit his development down the road.

Maxey shot 5–6 on non-paint two-pointers against the Heat. Although he missed a few layups and floaters from beyond the restricted arc, he appeared composed when he was trying to make his own shot against a strong defensive unit. He waited for an opportunity to create an open look by remaining patient and continuing his dribble rather than shooting down the lane.

He gave a shoutout to Sam Cassell, saying, “You know, I think we’re going to need some of those. He always said those are fourth-quarter and playoff shots.”
