GOOD NEWS TO UNITED: Sir Dave Brailsford, a British Olympic icon, will bring a winning attitude to Old Trafford for Manchester United supporters……
With INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe now a Manchester United stakeholder, the cycling expert will likely play a major role at Old Trafford. Kenny praised Brailsford as the engine behind Team GB’s success during a golden age of British cycling.
Overseeing British Cycling from 1997 to 2014, Brailsford’s accomplishments earned him the title of “serial winner,” with his teams topping the Olympic medal tables in 2008 and 2012.
And six-time Olympian Kenny, who won two gold medals in London 2012 while training under him, praised the coach for his ability to instill a culture of high performance in a squad.
In conversation with Jim White and Simon Jordan on talkSPORT, the most decorated female Olympian in British history praised the ‘amazing’ 60-year-old for her recent retirement.
“I only have good things to say about the way he made cycling so successful in Britain,” she remarked.
Later, Kenny said, “I thought he had people skills because he had to talk to us bike riders every day.”
“It is evident that he possesses strong interpersonal abilities, as he oversees a large group of subordinates at British Cycling, with whom he would have needed to coordinate and establish a shared understanding.”
Red Devils supporters will be happy to hear this news, as United teams have recently been accused of not having the attitude necessary to contend for championships.
Kenny went on to stress the value of having a distinct culture, saying, “That was the biggest thing for me.” Everybody at the velodrome had bought into the same idea when I came into any room.
