There is no other logical explanation for Draymond Green’s behavior other than his inability to avoid physical confrontation on the NBA court. In order to continue playing his tough style of basketball, he is still prepared to bend the rules as much as possible. He served suspensions for his attacks on Rudy Gobert and Jusuf Nurkic.

In a dispute with the Grizzlies last week, Green was also the focal point of attention. He was playing excessively physical defense on Santi Aldama, which sparked a team-wide brawl in which Desmond Bane became engaged and Taylor Jenkins fell to the ground while attempting to diffuse the situation.

Whether deliberate or not, the event involving Patty Mills supports the theory that Green is only playing against foreign players; in the past, non-American players Gobert, Nurkic, and Aldama have also been mentioned.

A few seasons ago, Draymond Green and Kawhi Leonard were probably the NBA’s most versatile defenders. Because of his versatility and ability to play all five positions on the court, Green served as the main stopper for the Warriors dynasty. He’s still Golden State’s greatest defender, but he’s not even close to being a DPOY candidate.

His fury has become notably worse as his talents have gradually decreased. While Green used to provoke opponents and engage in physical altercations with them, these days it is more often the result of desperation or frustration.

Green has acknowledged that he gets angry on the court and then loses track of what transpired. It’s obvious that Green is conscious of his occasionally excessively aggressive behavior on the court because he has even joked about having an alter ego.

With the Warriors in danger of missing the Play-In tournament, Draymond is averaging 8.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 6.0 assists this season. They’re going to defeat the Miami Heat tonight, and Green’s play on Patty Mills won’t probably have any repercussions.

Let’s say something similar occurred during the playoffs, similar to what happened with Green’s stomping on Domantas Sabonis’ chest the previous year. In that scenario, despite the negative consequences the Warriors have had to endure, the NBA will need to intervene and punish Draymond more severely because his pattern of hitting players doesn’t appear to be changing. The league needs to take action because Steve Kerr is unable to persuade him to back down.
