He spent last season on loan at Bournemouth in the Championship, where he featured 15 times.
“Leif has played games in pre-season and we are hoping he will be ready to make an impact early on,” Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna told the club website.
Ipswich have an option to extend Davis’s contract by a further 12 months.
Things hit a new low in 2019 when they sank to the third tier for the first time in nearly 30 years. Paul Lambert’s side finished rock bottom of the Championship and spent four years in League One before Kieran McKenna took them up in his first full season at the helm.
