Allen Park On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions revealed that 11 players had signed Reserve/Futures contracts. Every player either concluded the season on Detroit’s practice squad or, through the practice squad, on injured reserve.

Linebacker Mitchell Agude, wide receiver Maurice Alexander, guard Matt Farniok, offensive tackle Connor Galvin, running back Jake Funk, safety Brandon Joseph, cornerback Craig James, running back Jermar Jefferson, wide receiver Tom Kennedy, guard Michael Niese, and defensive tackle Chris Smith make up the group.

Only Galvin and Joseph saw action for the Lions this season out of the bunch. Together, the two undrafted rookies saw 21 special teams snaps.

NFL players under contract until the start of the following league year in mid-March, including pending free agents, who finish the season on a team’s roster. Players on the practice squad, however, become free agents at the conclusion of the season. A contract that is Reserve/Futures expires at the beginning of the following league season. For the league minimum, these are usually non-guaranteed contracts.

Reserve/Futures contracts become normal contracts as soon as the new league begins play, and the players are then included in the team’s salary-cap calculation and the 90-man offseason roster.
