Inside the Numbers: The Jets’ Seven Wins in the Final Two Minutes of Play

Inside the Numbers Behind the Jets' 7 Scores Inside the Last 2 Minutes of Regulation

The last cannon of the season-ending game is not the end of the pursuit of perfection in the numbers. Charts and spreadsheets can take many weeks to create at times. Occasionally, something truly remarkable emerges from the digital mashup.

Like the two-minute drives the Jets had in 2023. The drives in the first half weren’t very good. The Jets scored seven points in the last two minutes of their second quarter, while the opposition scored ten. The Jets were outscored 43-32 in the two-minute exercises.

However, the last two minutes of regulation revealed something else.

The Jets won this last two-minute drive period, 35-3. The plus-32 point margin was the best in the final two minutes of regulation in the NFL regular season, ahead of many teams, including Detroit (plus-20), Tampa Bay (plus-14), and Buffalo (plus-12). The Jets scored in those final two minutes in seven games and allowed opponents to score just once, a Bills field goal to send opening night at MetLife Stadium into overtime.

However, there’s more. All seven of those late goals, which were placed up on the scoreboard by players Zuerlein and Hall, came from their seven victories in the just finished season.
