AMAZING: SHE’s coming back thanks to the Indiana Fever…

“She is the target of someone.” Caitlin Clark is the hope of Indiana to bring Fever back on the championship track.

INDIA PARK – It was official as of Monday night.

The Indiana Fever selected Caitlin Clark as the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, revealing the worst-kept secret in the basketball world. Everything came to pass on Monday, so Christie Sides, the coach, and Lin Dunn, the general manager of the Fever, were able to discuss Clark in detail.

Drafting Clark entails matching her with Aliyah Boston, the top pick from the previous year. Boston was an All-Star and the WNBA Rookie of the Year in her rookie campaign, averaging 14.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game for the Fever in 2023.

Now, Boston and Clark will try to follow in the footsteps of the WNBA’s all-time great perimeter and post duos. Dunn has personally coached and drafted one of those combinations. When the Seattle Storm selected Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson first overall in the 2001 and 2002 drafts, respectively, she was the general manager and head coach of the team. After Dunn left, that team won two rings together, and now she has another chance to do so.

“It usually means that it leads to championships, and I think this is the beginning of us getting back on track to win another championship here,” Dunn said of having consecutive No. 1 picks. “When we were able to put Bird and Jackson together — a great point guard and a great post player — we were able to take off in Seattle, and I think that could happen here when you put Clark with Boston.”
