B/R: Outstanding Head Coach Would Be Former Cardinals DL
Arizona Cardinals supporters would want to see the Detroit Lions’ incredible turnaround in the Motor City, where they are just one victory away from winning the Super Bowl under head coach Dan Campbell.
Since his playing days, Campbell has been noted for his tough yet endearing coaching style and energy, which have contributed to the Lions creating a new culture.
Future attempts will undoubtedly be made to replicate what he has done for Detroit, and former Cardinals DL Calais Campbell made the cut in Bleacher Report’s search for the “next” Campbell among current players who could switch seamlessly.
From Brad Gagnon of B/R: “Calais Campbell’s career is coming to an end after 16 years in Arizona, Baltimore, Jacksonville, and Atlanta, but during his lengthy stay with the Cardinals, the longstanding locker room leader made a name for himself as one of the league’s most well-known captains.
“In August, Falcons senior defensive assistant Dave Huxtable remarked of the 37-year-old, “really his presence out there, it really commands leadership,” according to Amna Subhan of the team’s official website. “He’s a friendly giant; he’s such a friendly guy.”
John Harbaugh, the head coach in Baltimore, described Campbell’s leadership as “massively valuable.”
“Campbell is affable and passionate, and he is very knowledgeable—here’s a terrific video of him discussing Xs and Os with Brian Baldinger. When he ends his playing career, he would be a great coach.”
There’s little doubt that Campbell would be a fantastic asset to any NFL staff. The former All-Pro and Walter Payton Man of the Year has proven that he is more than capable of managing a locker room in a player capacity, and his expertise undoubtedly has the potential to help him advance to a more prominent position.
