Steelers Predicted to Cut Veteran WR
Pittsburgh The Pittsburgh Steelers need to make a few changes this summer in order to revamp their squad and try to win the Super Bowl in 2024. And one of their seasoned wide receivers might be right at the top of that list.
ESPN listed the summer plans for every team in the league, along with their “big prediction for the offseason” and greatest need. The release of seasoned wide receiver Allen Robinson is the Steelers’ biggest forecast.
Allen Robinson II, a seasoned wide receiver who was unsatisfactory in 2023 (34 receptions for 280 yards), will be cut by the Steelers. With just $1.9 million in dead money, the move can save the Steelers $10 million on the cap in 2024, according to ESPN.
Robinson was acquired by Pittsburgh prior to the season from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a seventh-round NFL Draft pick. Robinson was a previous Pro Bowl player. During his only season in the Steelers’ system, he hauled in 34 receptions for 280 yards.
After playing in his first NFL full season, the Steelers are hoping that Calvin Austin can develop into their third wide receiver option. Due to a foot ailment, the fourth-round pick missed his entire rookie year. However, he returned to the field this season and caught 17 catches for 180 yards and rushed for 57 yards, scoring two touchdowns.
Robinson’s replacement in Pittsburgh might come from free agency or the NFL Draft, but Robinson’s return on a lesser contract might also be an option this offseason.
