Brentford B has completed the signing of free agent Caelan Avenell on a short-term contract.
Avenell signs after a five-week trial period, where he has displayed his defending capabilities and his ability to play comfortably under pressure.
The 19-year-old defender has featured regularly for Brentford Under-21s in the Professional Development League. He has also made an appearance in the Premier League Cup.
With a number of players still to return from injury lay-offs, Avenell has been an assured and confident part of the team throughout his trial period.
The young defender was previously at Fulham and was at the west London club from the under-9s through to their under-21s.
He went on loan to Walton & Hersham in the 2023/24 season, where he made 10 starts for a side that finished seventh that year in the Southern Premier League South.
B team head coach Neil MacFarlane said: “During the time that he has been with us, Caelan’s attitude has impressed me the most. He has great application and has been a positive influence on the squad in general.
“He is a strong player with a genuine desire to defend and we have seen that in key moments in the games that he has played.
“There are ways to continue to help him develop which we are working on and I am very pleased that we can continue with him now signing permanently.”
