Steelers Face Competition for the Top Cornerback Position.

Steelers Have Competition for Top CB

The Pittsburgh Steelers won’t have a smooth path to signing one of the NFL’s top free agents

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers will be hunting for a top cornerback this offseason, either through the NFL Draft or free agency. And one name that is likely on their list could come with some competition.

Former Kansas City Chiefs defender L’Jarius Sneed has been a name the Steelers have been urged to sign this offseason. After his second Super Bowl with the Chiefs, he’ll hit the open market with an estimated value of four years, $65.3 million, according to Spotrac.

The former fourth-round pick may be available for signing, but it won’t be simple. NFL expert Tony Pauline claims that players from the Philadelphia Eagles are attempting to sign Sneed as a free agent.

“I’m told three of Sneed’s college teammates from Louisiana Tech, who are presently on the Eagles roster, are actively recruiting the cornerback to come to Philadelphia via text messages and other methods,” wrote Pauline.

Those players are running back Boston Scott, tight end Griffin Herbert and lineman Milton Williams.

Signing Sneed won’t come easy for the Steelers, but no one should rule out the possibility of adding the top cornerback. Pittsburgh is looking to pair another young star alongside Joey Porter Jr., and if they feel Sneed is the addition best suited for their growth, that’s the direction they’ll go.

Even with Philadelphia players recruiting him, it may be tough to turn down a sales pitch from Minkah Fitzpatrick, T.J. Watt and Patrick Peterson. Plus, the Mike Tomlin effect always comes into play when it comes to free agent signings.

Pittsburgh should have choices in the NFL Draft if Sneed decides to go elsewhere. However, don’t let some competition make you rule out signing.
