Sadly: Caitlin Clark Gets Beat Out by NFL Draft Pick…

Although Caitlin Clark did not have to face Cooper DeJean, she was unable to defeat Caleb Williams.

According to CEO Michael Rubin, via The Sporting Tribune, jersey sales for the WNBA and Indiana Fever rookie sensation broke Fanatics records. That only lasted a week, as Field Level Media reports, Williams’ jersey sales shot to a new Fanatics record when the Chicago Bears selected him first overall in Thursday’s NFL Draft.

Williams has had a stellar career at USC, earning parallels to Patrick Mahomes. The winner of the 2022 Heisman Trophy is a skilled passer and runner.

Even though Clark has drawn national notoriety as the NCAA’s all-time top scorer and a pinpoint passer at Iowa, DeJean, a Philadelphia Eagles draft pick, wasn’t afraid to take on Clark in a basketball competition. DeJean, a recent standout for the Iowa Hawkeyes football team, claimed to have fielded numerous inquiries concerning Clark throughout the pre-draft phase.

“I wouldn’t say it’s really weird but a lot of teams have asked me if I could beat Caitlin Clark one-on-one, just being from Iowa. I said I think I can,” DeJean, 21, told Yahoo Sports. “She’d probably score a few buckets on me but I think I could pull it off.”

DeJean did well in high school basketball at Odebolta, Iowa, where he scored 1,832 points in his career. That’s better than Iowa native and Golden State Warriors forward Harrison Barnes but less than Minnesota Vikings tight end and fellow Iowa native T.J. Hockenson.
