NY, January 30, 2024 — The network of professional women’s sports leagues, Athletes Unlimited (AU), will provide fans live and on-demand access to 18 of the 24 basketball games played this winter, marking another expansion of the WNBA’s content offerings. This year is the first year the AU games will be accessible for free on the WNBA App, and it also marks the second year in a row that WNBA platforms will be carrying Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball game action.
With a range of content and experiences available all year long, the redesigned WNBA App, which debuted in May of last year, draws fans closer to the sport and the stars they adore. Users can keep up with the WNBA and women’s basketball in a new way with the platform’s round-the-clock coverage, which includes the biggest headlines and the most recent news, real-time notifications, social style vertical videos, and customized watching options.
“The WNBA is thrilled to collaborate with Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball for a second consecutive season, unlocking access to more women’s basketball for fans across the globe,” said WNBA Chief Growth Officer Colie Edison. “We are proud to have the WNBA App serve as the free, live streaming partner of AU Pro Basketball, and with many of our WNBA athletes set to star in the upcoming season – and the additional group of talented, young players on AU rosters looking to make their mark – fan demand for this content has never been greater. With the addition of the 2024 AU Pro Basketball season, coupled with the current WNBL (Australia’s premier women’s basketball league) season available on demand, the WNBA App is committed to serving as the year-round direct-to-consumer provider of the best professional women’s basketball worldwide.”
Cheri Kempf, Senior Vice President of Athletes Unlimited, said, “We are excited to build on our relationship with the WNBA and once again partner to provide Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball to the most ardent fans of the sport through the WNBA App.” “We are thrilled that fans will have even more access to these games this season, as they will witness elite athletes vying for the title of individual champion in their respective sports.”
Forty players from four clubs will compete in the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball league. Of those 40 players, 18 were on a WNBA roster at the end of the 2023 season, while 11 more—among them five-time All-Star Angel McCoughtry—have WNBA experience. The four-week league season will begin on Thursday, February 29 and end on Saturday, March 23. Every week, the top four players on the scoreboard get to choose their teams for the upcoming week, meaning that each week’s athletes will compete with a new roster. Athletes receive points for both team and individual performances. The player with the most points at the end of the season will be named the individual champion of AU Pro Basketball.
This season, Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball will play its 24-game schedule at the Fair Park Coliseum in Dallas, Texas. The team will reveal its whole broadcast and streaming schedule in February. Sheryl Swoopes, a WNBA star and Hall of Famer, will provide analysis alongside Cindy Brunson calling plays. More guest analysts will be revealed at a later time.
