Ipswich Town have hit a snag in form in recent weeks but are looking to strengthen the squad before the January transfer window closes next Thursday, according to reports.
The Tractor Boys are clinging onto second place in the Championship, having had such a great start to the 2023/24 campaign. However, Kieran McKenna’s side have now picked up just one win in their last seven league outings.
As per the Not The Top 20 Podcast, Ipswich are sitting sixth in the table on form over the past 14 matches in the Championship, having accumulated merely one more point than Watford and fewer than Coventry City and Norwich City.
Nevertheless, a late equaliser on Monday night from Jeremy Sarmiento against runaway league leaders Leicester City proved that the Blues are still strong enough to compete with the very best teams in England’s second tier.
Regardless, strengthening the first-team squad is a must if Ipswich Town are to pull off an unprecedented promotion back to the top-flight for the first time in over two decades and McKenna is reportedly keen to do just that.
According to a new report from Football Insider, the East Anglian club are set to battle it out with fellow Championship side Blackburn Rovers as well as relegation-threatened Premier League outfit Burnley for Heart of Midlothian fullback Alex Cochrane.
The outlet is claiming that all three clubs have been left impressed by Cochrane’s performances in the Scottish Premiership and will go to war for his signature, with the winter window coming to its conclusion in the coming week.
