BREAKING NEWS: Cowboys announce coaching staff changes for 2024…..

FRISCO, Texas — In 2024, the Dallas Cowboys’ coaching staff will see yet another wave of changes as Dan Quinn, the defensive coordinator, leaves the team to become the head coach of the Washington Commanders. Quinn’s departure from Dallas came before the departure of other coaches.

These include former defensive line coach Aden Durde joining the Seattle Seahawks as defensive coordinator in addition to former defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. and assistant defensive line coach Shariff Floyd departing to join Quinn in the nation’s capital.

Everything points to a change for the Cowboys coaching staff, including a well-deserved promotion for Al Harris, who will now work alongside Mike McCarthy as the assistant head coach in addition to continuing to perform the other duties that have made him one of the league’s most reputable coaches.

In 2020, McCarthy’s former teammate Harris, a Pro Bowl and All-Pro cornerback from their time together with the Green Bay Packers, joined the Cowboys as a defensive backs coach.

In an official statement, McCarthy said, “Al has been such an impactful member of our coaching staff and team.” “I’m excited about his leadership in this new capacity. He is a fantastic mentor and motivator, and by moving up to this next level, our entire staff will gain from him. Al is a remarkable fit for this because of his commitment, ability to work with others, grasp of the game, and background in creating the special dynamics required to support a championship locker room.”

Harris is thrilled about the chance to advance both inside the company and as an NFL coach.

“I am grateful to Coach McCarthy and the Cowboys for giving me the opportunity to support the head coach in our championship run,” Harris stated. We have a capable team that can accomplish our objectives, and I will commit my time, effort, and knowledge to support this group’s success in any way I can. I am appreciative of the chance to carry on with our 2020 start.”

Here’s a detailed look at how the crew has resolved everything:

Novel Coaches of Offense:

Steve Shimko is a quality control and offensive assistant.

New Coaches of Defense:

  • The defensive coordinator is Mike Zimmer.
Def. Run Game Coordinator Paul Guenther
    Jeff Zgonina, Linebacker
Greg Ellis is a quality control and defensive line assistant.
Cristian Garcia is the defensive backs’ assistant and quality control

Even while they may appear new, players like Ellis and Zimmer are actually not that different from the team’s past. Ellis was a player with the Cowboys for a while, and Zimmer was a lengthy assistant coach before switching to defensive coordinator.

Guenther, who was instrumental in luring former All-Pro linebacker Eric Kendricks away from the San Francisco 49ers in 2024 free agency, follows Zimmer from their 2021 season together with the Vikings.

And in a strange turn of events, the Commanders’ coaches, Zgonina and Garcia, were able to be taken by the Cowboys, who then moved them to Dallas and Zimmer’s defense.
