>The Detroit Lions are hanging onto all 3 coordinators for 2024…

All three coordinators will remain with the Detroit Lions through 2024.

ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions have made their goals for 2024 quite clear. Baby, it’s Super Bowl or bust.

Furthermore, it’s difficult to see how their offseason could begin more successfully.

On Thursday, the Washington Commanders revealed that they have selected Dan Quinn to be their next head coach, bypassing defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn of the Lions. Only a day ago, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson notified Seattle and Washington that he too was opting to remain in Detroit.

With only three full-time starters from their 14-6 season eligible to become free agents in March, head coach Dan Campbell will have all three coordinators back for another attempt at winning next season, and they will have one of the most talented rosters in the league at their disposal.

Detroit has scored an unexpected victory with the retention of all three coordinators. With interest in all but one of the jobs and interviews for five of them, Johnson was one of the most sought-after head coach prospects of the year. While the Commanders were in the air, en route to Detroit this week to interview him and Glenn, he finally withdrew from consideration as the official inside leader for Washington.

Glenn was likewise in high demand; he applied to four positions, making it to the finals in Washington. He ultimately came in second place once more and has a four-season ticket in Detroit.

With the Lions defense rating No. 2 against the run and a player vote by The Athletic that determined Glenn to be the best NFL coordinator, the team made significant progress last season. However, there were serious problems with the pass defense, and Detroit is anticipated to focus this offseason on improving at cornerback and edge rusher.

The Lions’ coordinator position will remain stable, although there may be changes underneath them. The offensive coordinator positions in Tampa Bay and New England have interviewed Tanner Engstrand, the coordinator of passing games, while defensive line coach John Scott’s future remains under wraps. For next season, the Lions have hired Terrell Williams, a seasoned defensive line coach, to oversee that group and manage the run game.
