Force upsets Reds to win the Super Rugby season’s first ever.
In their Super Rugby Pacific match at Perth’s HBF Park, the Western Force stunned the Queensland Reds 40–31 with a six-try barrage.
On Saturday, the Force jumped out to a 21-0 lead in under 32 minutes and led 40-19 with 16 minutes remaining before the Reds mounted a late comeback.
With five minutes remaining, tries from Fraser McReight and Jock Campbell reduced the lead to nine points, but the Force held strong to deny the Reds a victory or bonus point.
With their first win of the season, the Force accomplished the unthinkable by pushing the formidable Crusaders (0-5) to the bottom of the standings.
Queensland fell to fifth place with a 3-2 record.
Jeremy Williams, the captain of the Force, described the victory as “unreal.”
“When we had the ball in our hands, we demonstrated extreme discipline and patience.
“We performed incredibly well. The majority of the time, our defense played pretty well.
It’s quite unique. It was great to see all of the training-related activities we had been performing reproduced on the paddock.
