Just one week before the 2024 MLB regular season gets underway on Thursday, the Arizona Diamondbacks have suffered a serious blow to their starting rotation.
Prior to this injury, Rodríguez was regarded as the No. 2 or 3 arm behind Opening Day starter Zac Gallen. While Rodríguez is recovering, Merrill Kelly will most likely trail Gallen in the second position.
Brandon Pfaadt will be the Diamondbacks’ third pitcher for the time being. Bryce Jarvis, Tommy Henry, and Ryne Nelson are vying for a spot at the rear of the rotation.
After signing a $80 million, four-year contract in the winter, Rodríguez is out for the rest of Spring Training due to this announcement. He was 0-1 with an 8.00 ERA in four starts, with 11 strikeouts in 9.0 innings.
There are still five games remaining on Arizona’s Spring Training schedule before the regular season opener against the Colorado Rockies.
