ESPN REPORT: So Sad, The Minnesota Vikings Head Coach has been Issued A..

To pull off a draft pick trade with the Houston Texans more than a month ahead of the NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings had to have a good reason.

It’s Vikings ascending. Numerous media sources state that the Texans will trade their 232nd overall pick this year, which is the 23rd overall pick, to the Vikings for their 42nd overall, 188th overall, and second-round pick in 2025.

The Texans will be back out of the first round, but they will also gain an additional second-round pick the following year and a boost in the late rounds. If the Vikings have a rough season, that choice might be worth something. And considering how strong the rest of the NFC North is, that is a possibility. As part of the Deshaun Watson trade, Houston acquired a first-round pick from the Cleveland Browns and sent it to Minnesota.

What the Vikings are planning with the extra first-round pick is the most intriguing aspect.

Minnesota now owns No. 23 in addition to having the 11th overall pick. Their clear motivation stems primarily from their massive quarterbacking void. Kirk Cousins signed with the Atlanta Falcons after the Vikings made the decision to let him go. Sam Darnold is a placeholder who the Vikings signed.

The Vikings could trade up in the draft aggressively because they have two picks in the top 23. A team in the top three (the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots) would need to pass on one of those quarterbacks and move down in order to move into the top three and have a chance at Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels. Though it appears implausible, that is conceivable.
