ESPN REPORT: So Sad, The New York Giant’s Head Coach has been Issued A..

FC Wink Martindale of the Giants cursed out Brian Daboll over the firings

IN RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSY — During a meeting on Monday, New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale cursed out coach Brian Daboll, citing his anger that the team was removing two of his closest lieutenants, an ESPN source said.

Martindale “said his bit, stood up, slammed the door and marched out of the building,” according to the New York Post, following the Giants’ dismissal of defensive assistant Kevin Wilkins and outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins. Drew Wilkins was regarded as Martindale’s right-hand man, and the two had traveled over from Baltimore with Martindale.

The root of the imminent breakup is the tumultuous relationship between Daboll and Martindale. The two were reportedly in a “terrible position” in November.

After the event on Monday, a source stated that they anticipated Martindale’s resignation. As of Tuesday night, the Giants had still not heard from Martindale. He arrived back to his Sarasota, Florida, residence on Tuesday afternoon.

Martindale’s contract expires in a year. According to The Post, he owes $3 million.

If Martindale resigns, the Giants might be able to stop him from playing for another team. This may become even more repulsive if that were the case.

If Martindale, 60, becomes available, he should have options. Following their games, the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants’ final two opponents, had nothing but positive things to say about his plan. At the end of their individual seasons, each might be searching for a defensive coordinator.

Following a combined season-ending press conference with the media on Monday, general manager Joe Schoen and Daboll discussed the matter. There, they stated that Martindale and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka’s return was what they “expected.”
