Galway United vs. Sligo Rovers postponed due to safety issues

Storm Kathleen’s health and safety concerns have forced the postponement of Sligo Rovers vs. Galway United, Saturday night’s SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division match.

An orange weather warning is in effect for Galway and Mayo until 6 p.m., while a yellow warning is in effect for the remainder of the nation until 8 p.m.

The league has verified that the game at The Showgrounds has been canceled owing to health and safety issues and the risk of traveling. The game was scheduled to start at 7:45 p.m.

The Sligo Rovers and Galway United SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division match has been postponed due to health and safety concerns due to flying debris, the possibility of travel, and power outages in the Sligo area during an Orange Weather Warning issued by Met Eireann, according to a statement released on Saturday afternoon by the League of Ireland. “We will provide any additional details on the new schedule when they become available.”

Sligo Rovers’ victory over their Connacht rivals would have lifted them to third position in the standings, tying them with Derry City in second place on 15 points. Galway United’s loss would have sent them down to third.

Due to excessive snowfall last month, the games between Shamrock Rovers and Drogheda United and Bohemians and Dundalk were postponed. They are now scheduled for April 29 and April 15, respectively.
