Devoted Bay Area Packers supporters eager for another Packers/49ers game.
WBAY, Green Bay, Wisconsin The Bay Area has been home to a devoted Green Bay Packers fan base for the past 12 years.
SF Bay Area Packer Fans founder Kristin Kain told us, “I started the Facebook group in 2012 and it’s just grown like out of control from there, we have over 400 members right now. When I moved to San Jose there wasn’t a dedicated group, there weren’t a lot of bars to really connect and watch the games with.”
Kain says she’s always shocked to see so many Green and Gold-wearing enthusiasts.
“I guess it’s just the Packers’ power,” Kain remarked. “It’s amazing how many of us you see in your regular life, at Target, the grocery store, or anywhere else. That’s how I actually recruit people; I see them out there wearing their Packer gear, and I bring them into the group.”
There are lots of natives among the group as well as transplants from the Midwest.
“I was born and raised here in San Jose, I’m still in my parent’s house, and I became a Packers fan by reading a book in the 5th grade about the Packers and writing a book report on it, and from there I just fell in love with their history,” said Danreb Victorio, a member of SF Bay Area Packer Fans “My favorite color is green, and it also helps that back in the day Brett Favre always destroyed the Niners.”
Although the Niners are strong favorites this weekend, Bay Area supporters believe the Packers have already had a successful season and are not writing the team off.
“Whatever happens on Saturday, we know this team has a bright future,” Kain said. “We’re just happy and excited.”
