Yes and no. Lakewood Church is not affiliated with any formal denomination, and teaches a variant of the prosperity gospel which is much more like self-help psychology than a church of Christianity. I worked with a number of charities over the years, and while Catholics, Methodists, and Jewish synagogues were all active in charity work for Houston, I never once heard of Lakewood Church reaching out to help anyone outside their church. Charity is not their way.

When Hurricane Harvey struck Houston, many churches and service groups opened their doors to help hurricane victims. But Lakewood Church closed its doors, claiming the church was too damaged from flood waters. Lakewood and Osteen caught a lot of criticism when Osteen’s claim was proven false.
