Is Rams Considering Targeting Bears Cornerback Jaylon Johnson, a Free Agent?.
The Los Angeles Rams may be trying to sign a big name in free agency to bolster the secondary because their passing defense was a little lacking this season. The squad might benefit from a corner or safety to help elevate the defense, and Brad Spielberger of PFF claims that Chicago Bears player Jaylon Johnson is the best corner available in free agency.
Spielberger notes that Johnson “continued to push for a new deal right up to seeking a trade at the deadline this year, but Chicago decided to keep him around following negotiations with other teams.” “The muscular, technically sound wide cornerback has never allowed a 60% completion rate in an NFL season. He boasts ball production and lockdown coverage qualities that prevent targets as well as anyone.” The 24-year-old cornerback had an outstanding season, earning a spot on the All-Pro Second Team and the Pro Bowl. The 7-10 Bears’ defense was their strong suit this season, thus he was one of their bright lights.
Johnson also concluded the season with four interceptions, good for a tie for fifth in the league, and he took one all the way to the end zone. Given that he is a huge corner and is roughly the same size and weight as former Ram Jalen Ramsey, the young corner could be an intriguing fit for the Rams. The team would have its next undisputed best cornerback if they selected Johnson. If the team wishes to compete next season, they must address the secondary, regardless of whether they choose to make a trade or pursue a player in free agency.
