Caitlin Clark of Iowa Is Thinking About Playing Several More Seasons.
Caitlin Clark, a basketball player for Iowa, said on Monday that she may postpone her professional future for another season.
Clark plans to play one more season of NCAA ball as a junior before submitting her WNBA draft application. (Clark won’t be qualified for the 2025 WNBA draft.) Should Clark want to continue her collegiate career, that could easily translate into two more seasons.
“I have another year here and maybe one more after, but the WNBA is where I want to be,” Clark stated. “I guess I’ll have to decide on that sometime next year.” I honestly don’t know if I’m going to stay another year or go after the new one.
Clark stated that she expects many of those sponsorships to continue throughout her professional career, therefore NIL deals won’t play a role in her decision.
Clark made numerous history last season as a sophomore. She made history by being the first female basketball player in the country to lead in assists (257) as well as points (863). She tied the record for the fastest women’s player to earn 2,000 career points after surpassing all men’s and women’s players in the previous 20 years to reach 1,500 career points. She eventually became one of only ten female college basketball players in history to post consecutive triple-doubles.
Clark has a chance to shatter some all-time records in women’s college basketball if her collegiate career lasts until her fifth year. With 3,527 points, current Aces player Kelsey Plum is the NCAA Division I women’s record holder for most career points. Clark already has 2,452 career points as of Monday. If she plays for two more seasons with the Hawkeyes, she probably would break Plum’s record.
