Former first-round selection signed a two-way contract with the Hawks.
The Atlanta Hawks signed wing Dylan Windler to a two-way contract on Monday night, announcing yet another late-season roster addition. In order to make place for Florida State product Trent Forrest, the Hawks switched guard Trent Forrest from his two-way contract to a conventional NBA deal last week, releasing veteran Patty Mills.
Dylan Windler Signs Two-Way Contract with Hawks
The Cleveland Cavaliers selected the 27-year-old wing with the 26th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Dylan Windler was a strong 3-point shooter before he joined the NBA. Windler, a four-year player at Belmont, finished his collegiate career with a 30.6 percent shooting percentage. In his final two seasons, he averaged 19.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. As a senior, he helped the Bruins qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Windler missed what would have been his first season due to a stress response in his lower leg. He made his court debut for the Cavaliers in 2020–21 after having surgery to fix the bothersome injury. But Windler injured his left wrist in his rookie season and missed a month of action.
After his return, Windler did have a strong performance from mid-January to mid-March. In 19.2 minutes per game (23 games), the Indiana native averaged 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 37.5 percent from three-point range and 46.8 percent from the field. In that span, he played his greatest game against the Atlanta Hawks. Windler filled up the box score in 22 minutes, scoring 15 points on 5–6 shooting from three, a season-high. Cleveland won 112-111 over the Hawks.
