Jordan Montgomery, a left-hander, has signed to a one-year contract with a one-year player option, the Arizona Diamondbacks formally announced on Friday.
This season, Montgomery will get $25 million. Depending on how many starts he makes, he can guarantee a salary of at least $20 million and as much as $25 million for 2025.
Montgomery will be able to opt out of his contract and become a free agent if he makes 10 starts this season.

The 31-year-old Montgomery helped the Texas Rangers win the World Series last year and had a fantastic playoffs. In six games, he was 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA (five starts).
In Game 2 of the World Series, he lost to the Diamondbacks, which was his only playoff loss. In six innings, he gave up nine hits and four runs.
In five games, the Rangers defeated the Diamondbacks.
Montgomery split time between the St. Louis Cardinals (21 starts) and Rangers (11), finishing 10-11 with a 3.20 ERA in 32 starts the previous season.
In 141 appearances (140 starts) over seven seasons with the New York Yankees (2017–22), Cardinals (2022-23), and Rangers, he is 38–34 with a 3.68 ERA.
