The 2025 NBA Draft’s #1 pick, Khaman Maluach, has committed to Duke.
Potential top-three choice Khaman Maluach, an international center, announced on Wednesday that he has committed to Duke.
Maluach, a 7-foot-2 big man who plays for the NBA Academy Africa in Senegal, was not ranked by traditional scouting services, but he projects as a five-star, top-10 player in the 2024 recruiting class. Another indication of Maluach’s immense potential? After winning the MVP award at the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders Africa camp the previous summer, Maluach went on to win the playoff and defensive MVP awards at the Basketball Without Borders Global camp in February during NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, where he got to hang out with his idol, star player Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Maluach chose Duke over offers from the NBA G-League Ignite and Australia’s NBL Rising Stars program, as well as other finalists Kansas, Kentucky, and UCLA.
Maluach, who is 17 years old, is Duke’s sixth 2024 commit. He now plays with five-star guard Isaiah Evans (ranked No. 11), five-star wing Kon Knueppel (ranked No. 16), four-star center Patrick Ngongba (ranked No. 17), and four-star wing Darren Harris (ranked No. 49). Cooper Flagg is the top overall player.
After three offseasons as the Blue Devils’ coach, Jon Scheyer has finally completed his second No. 1 recruiting class with Maluach committed. When it came to freshmen, Duke had the top-ranked class in 2022 and the second-best class in the 2023 cycle.
