Mark & Digger’s surprising trick for making moonshine …

Gold Has Arrived on the Mission To Shine.

Following two days of excitement and a mysterious Instagram teaser, the new MoonSwatch has finally come, and it’s very different from what we had anticipated. With the intriguing title “Mission to Moonshine Gold,” Swatch teased us, causing us to conjecture and make predictions that made our tiny hearts of precious metals melt. As it happens, the actual version is more of a riff on the original than a completely unique variety.

With the addition of a chronograph seconds hand that differs in color from the other hands, we have essentially created a MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon with a golden twist. This is because the Swatch Group’s approved refinery uses recycled gold to cover objects with Omega Moonshine gold.

The New Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to Moonshine Gold

Upon purchase, each golden seconds hand comes with a unique certificate noting that it was created in February under the full moon. The new MoonSwatch costs CHF 25 (about $25) more because of the Moonshine coating.

It is still the case, as you may recall, that the original MoonSwatch is not available for purchase online. That’s exactly the same situation as this one, and it gets worse. Only today, March 7, 2023, will this unique Mission to Moonshine Gold be on sale in Zurich, London, Milan, and Tokyo. For what reason such cities? Swatch, however, suggests that this is because of their connection to gold.

For instance, the reason London was selected is that it is the site of the worldwide gold price fixing. Conversely, the Paradeplatz in Switzerland is renowned for its gold reserves and banks. This is not something I made up.

Although these watches are only available today, their manufacture is limited, even if they are not strictly limited editions. Are there going to be more? Swatch said that they’ll probably have another event similar to this in the future, maybe around another full moon (no, this isn’t a joke).

Swatch at least showed some humor in their promotional materials when stating that there weren’t enough of these original MoonSwatch Mission to Moonshine Gold models made.
