Drew Brees Assesses Russell Wilson’s Suitability for Sean Payton and the Broncos’ Future.

The previous season’s Denver Broncos were lacking something.

More particularly, there was something missing from head coach Sean Payton’s scheme that, throughout their 15 years together with the New Orleans Saints, quarterback Drew Brees had grown accustomed to seeing.

Following a year-long hiatus from coaching, Payton sought to introduce his signature system to Denver. However, he and Russell Wilson never clicked, with the latter leaving the team quickly.

“To be honest, things kind of went like I had anticipated,” Brees stated on “Pro Football Talk” on February 8. “Look, I think Russell has a skill set, and I think he can still go play a terrific role someplace for the remainder of his career.” This season’s performance didn’t feel like the Sean Payton offense that I’m accustomed to seeing in terms of timing, rhythm, and tempo.

“Those are the offense’s distinguishing features. That is the established standard.

Russell Wilson of the Broncos is expected to sign a multi-year deal to rejoin the NFC.

In just two of his fifteen seasons as head coach, Payton’s Saints offenses finished outside of the top ten in yardage, and those were his final two seasons. Only once, in his last season, did they finish outside the top 12 in points.
