This season, a number of prospects have made major league contributions for the San Francisco Giants in their rookie campaigns. However, none of the prospects went into the season with greater hopes than left-hander Kyle Harrison (#1 pitching prospect for the Giants). Harrison is a serious contender to make his big-league debut with the Giants before the season ends because of his impressive strikeout total in Triple-A. But Harrison’s hamstring problem has put him on the disabled list for the time being.
Keith Law of The Athletic recently published a story on Harrison in his top-60 potential rankings, which prompted concerns. Law stated, “He’s currently on the injured list (IL) due to a Grade 2 hamstring injury, a partial tear that might finish his regular season and likely keep him out for several more weeks.
De La Salle High School in the Bay Area produced Harrison, who the Giants selected in the third round of the 2020 MLB Draft. In 2021, he started his professional career in full-season ball and went on to win the Pitcher of the Year award in Low-A West. In terms of strikeouts per nine innings (14.3) and ERA (3.19), he was the league leader. Harrison, a top-100 prospect in the minors, broke out into the consensus as one of the top 50 prospects in the minors last season, logging a remarkable 2.71 ERA between High-A and Double-A with 186 strikeouts and just 49 walks in 113 innings.
