Guard Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz is a target for the New York Knicks.
The Utah Jazz have been fielding calls in the lead-up to the NBA trade deadline, which is in less than two weeks. A great deal.
That makes sense. The Jazz are appealing to the other teams in the league because of their talent, short-term contracts, and roster assets. When they believe a move is best for the franchise, their front office won’t hesitate or be scared to take action.
According to league sources, Kelly Olynyk and Jordan Clarkson are drawing the greatest attention. This has nothing to do with league-coveted star forward Lauri Markkanen, who is considered by the Jazz to be about as untouchable as a player can be.
In Clarkson’s case, the New York Knicks are among the teams showing interest.
This lines up with the other rumors we’ve seen surrounding Jordan Clarkson and Kelly Olynyk. The question is what would the trade actually be?
The Jazz seem interested in Quentin Grimes, and if they took on Evan Fournier’s deal, they could make salaries work, as Ian Begley has previously reported. The Knicks would undoubtedly have to surrender Utah a first-round pick in such a potential trade. Grimes is not as good as Clarkson, and that settles the Fournier contract. All that matters is that Utah give Jordan Clarkson to the Knicks, even though Fournier’s deal is set to expire this season, so the Jazz really have little leverage. Can the Knicks and Jazz figure out a way to make this work given their turbulent past in trade, which included the Donovan Mitchell trade falling through over the offseason?
