The Jaguars’ 2023 Most Improved Player is Devin Lloyd.

Even though the 2023 season wasn’t great for the Jacksonville Jaguars, it wasn’t a complete collapse. Several players actually had better seasons than the Jaguars’ 2022 postseason run. Devin Lloyd, a linebacker in his second year who improved from a liability as a rookie to a reliable run-defender, was one of those players.

“I felt that Devin Lloyd made a positive progress. Although I believe things kind of slowed down for him this year, he can still continue to work on some projects and clean up some things this spring. Doug Pederson, the head coach of the Jaguars, stated at the end of the season that “it can be better for him.”

Because of his progress, Pro Football Focus selected Lloyd as the Jaguars’ most improved player overall, choosing him above players such as Josh Allen, Darious Williams, and Travon Walker. Lloyd’s PFF grade increased from 48.3 in his rookie year to 78.1 in 2023, per PFF. “In his rookie season, Lloyd was a liability at times in run defense and coverage, but he improved in both areas for his sophomore campaign. He ranked third among linebackers with a 90.3 run-defense grade at the end of the season, according to PFF.

This season, Lloyd played inside linebacker for the Jaguars and started 15 games. He finished with 127 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 quarterback hit, 2 fumble recoveries, and 7 pass deflections. 2024 will mark Lloyd’s third season as a starter under new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen.
