TALLAHASSEE, Florida — At the Tucker Center on Saturday afternoon, third-ranked North Carolina defeated the Seminoles 75-68 after overcoming a halftime deficit and a late Florida State push.
RJ Davis scored 24 points on 9 of 18 shots from the field to lead the Tar Heels in scoring. In addition to putting up a season-high 16 points, rookie guard Elliot Cadeau also had a game-high six assists. Harrison Ingram scored 13 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to record his third consecutive double-double. With roughly 33 seconds left, Ingram stopped a crucial shot by FSU’s Jamir Watkins, helping Carolina secure the victory. The Tar Heels moved to 5-0 on the road this season and extended their winning streak to 10 games.

Living in the trenches is one of the topics we discuss frequently. I also inform them that the rebounds, loose balls, defensive talks, and box outs happen in the trenches. Getting to the ball while teams are pressing, controlling the ball, creating opportunities, and carrying out attacking plays are all examples of little but crucial actions, particularly in the closing moments.
“And so that’s something from the start that we have talked about with this group with this team. We’ve been in those situations a lot this year. And we practice those situations as well. So there’s, irregardless if it comes out in a win or a loss, we feel prepared and confident in those situations to be able to do what we need to do in order to get a victory.”
Is this team at the point where they enjoy playing in the trenches?
“They’re getting there. But I would say even more, I think, every day they’re learning more and more. That’s where the success comes from. And the reason why I would say that is when I mentioned it to them, they’re nodding their head. They’re like, ‘yes, Coach (Davis).’ I think they’re really understanding the importance individually. And as a team, how important it is to live in the trenches.”
