news reports: Commanders ownership turned off Johnson, who is still the offensive coordinator for the Lions in Detroit…

Commanders-Ben Johnson drama: according to sources, Lions OC labels ownership “basketball men” and doesn’t do a good interview.

Regarding Ben Johnson, the Washington Commanders, and the interview that transpired between the two, there’s a lot of drama in the air.

The notion that the Commanders are “basketball men” who might be overconfident in their knowledge of football put off Johnson, who is still the offensive coordinator for the Lions in Detroit, according to ESPN. Conversely, the same story claimed that Johnson’s performance during the interview was subpar.

NBA Hall of Fame point guard Magic Johnson, who in addition to winning five titles with the Lakers during his playing career also boasts MLB, WNBA, and MLS titles as an owner, is part of the Commanders’ relatively new ownership group together with managing partner Josh Harris.

Washington is still looking to fill the position of offensive coordinator. The Commanders did indeed hire Dan Quinn, the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and former defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, to fill the position of head coach.

Johnson, on the other hand, is going back to Detroit, where he had a great season last year. In the first half of the NFC championship game, the Lions scored 24 points against the 49ers, proving they were among the finest offensive teams in the NFL. Regretfully for Johnson and company, the Lions ended up losing 34–31 after scoring just seven points in the second half.

Johnson won’t be taking over as head coach this season, but he’ll undoubtedly be a strong contender come offseason. However, it seems unlikely that he will end up in Washington very soon.
